How to Prepare Paper for Moisture Sensor Calibration

Description

Most Infered Moisture sensor needs slop and offset for each product for moisture detection. In theory, it only needs two points to establish a straight line. However, it is better to have a least three points to calibrate a moisture sensor. Steps below decribe how to create four sample points with same paper for moisture sensor calibration.

Steps to Prepare Paper Sample Points

Paper moisture content from a paper roll can have +/- 1.5% from moisture content drift from its label. That’s what paper mill consider acceptable at this time. In order to calibrate moisture sensor, moisture content should be consistent across the paper sample. That’s the reason sample should be prepared. It is better to store sample in a seal container, such a ZipLock bag or cookie jar at least over night to let paper moisture content distribute evenly.

Four simple paper sample points to use are:

  1. Orginal Sample stored in sealed plastic bag for at least 24 hours.Original Paper in Sealed Plastic Bag
  2. Original Sample Microwaved for 30 seconds and stored in sealed plastic bag for at least 24 hours.Oven 30 Seconds in Sealed Bag
  3. Paper sample with one squirt of water and stored in sealed plastic bag for at least 24 hours.Squirt Water - Warp Away from Water
One Squirt of Water in Sealed Bag
  4. Paper sample with two squirts of water and stored in sealed plastic bag for at least 24 hours. Two Squirts of Water in Sealed Bag

If you have ready access to chemicals, you can use Saturated Salt Solution, which not only generates consistent moisture samples, samples also have known moisture content.
